10 Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Luxury Hotel Stay

10 Tips for Getting the Most Out of Your Luxury Hotel Stay

Why not make the best of your luxury hotel experience? Here’s a no-nonsense guide on how to live your best life (and be pampered the most) while staying in a fancy hotel. Spoiler alert: you don’t need to spend more money to get the benefits.

1. Let them know you’re celebrating something (even if it’s just surviving life)

The hotel staff loves to feel part of special moments. Tell them if you are celebrating a special occasion, such as a birthday, anniversary, or if you have been away from home for weeks. You might get a room upgrade for free, or a bottle champagne. Or, you may even receive a note saying, “You are awesome, enjoy your stay.”

Surprise Perks – Speaking of unexpected benefits, I will never forget my experience with my partner at Le Meridien Phuket Beach Resort. The beach resort was picture perfect, making you feel as if you just stepped out of a travel magazine. The resort was a total treat, with top-notch amenities ranging from rejuvenating spa treatment to incredible cuisine.
Here’s the big surprise. My partner was in Phuket before with an ex. He vowed he would never return to that hotel. What do we see when we walk into our Le Meridien room? We were greeted by a massive towel elephant sculpture… and a sign saying “Welcome back”! A handwritten note addressed to another couple was also included. You heard it right, another couple’s name appeared on our welcome letter. His face was priceless. It’s obvious that I never let him forget it.

2. Check in early, check out late (The Early Bird Gets The Pool)

Why not make the most of this luxury? Early check-ins and late checkouts are ideal. If you ask nicely, or in my case very nicely, you may be able to get a free, late checkout. This will give you more time to enjoy that expensive, but unbelievably comfortable bed. Don’t sit in the lobby if you cannot check in before your scheduled time. Drop off your bags and hang out at the pool, or grab a drink at the bar. The moment you enter the doors, your vacation begins.

3. Enjoy Free Food Because You Deserve it

Some hotels offer a generous selection of food. If breakfast, cocktail hours, or lounge access are included, check. If they do, plan your day to include it. No one wants free snacks or a couple of mimosas.

4. The Concierge is your personal fairy godmother.

They’re not just there to make dinner reservations, though they are very good at it. These magical beings can get you tickets to sold out shows and reservations to that difficult-to book restaurant. You want a surprise party or spa appointment at the last minute? You’ve found the right people. They know the whole area and can tell you all about those hidden gems Google won’t. Let them know what you want to achieve and they will do the rest.

5. Why not try all the bath products?

You know that if you have ever visited a luxurious hotel, their bath products are the skincare equivalent to gold. Guess what? You’ll get a new one every time you use it. Enjoy that expensive body wash and shampoo. You deserve it. Don’t forget to check out the other products that they may have for your skin. Some hotels will make you feel like you just received a spa treatment. You won’t be blamed for using the luxurious lotion daily, except perhaps your wallet.

6. Take Full Advantage of the Over-the-Top Features

What do luxury hotels offer? Imagine robes that are so soft, you won’t want to remove them, state-of the-art fitness centers, and pools you will want to spend the entire time in. You should also take advantage of the free water offered in the gym, because you are not exercising that hard. But hydration is important. Guess what? You can even use the spa without booking any treatments in some hotels. Relax, that’s what you should do. This is a free vacation inside a vacation.

7. Book in Advance to Save Big

If you plan to book a spa treatment in advance (and, let’s face it, you probably should), you can save up to 50%. Booking on arrival can save you up to 50%. Booking early will also ensure that you get the most convenient time slot, and better treatment options. Relax and enjoy the spa without paying full price. While you’re there, take advantage of the complimentary saunas, hot tubs and pools. This is essentially free luxury.

8. They’re there to help, so don’t be afraid to ask for what you want.

Need a new pillow? You want a bath drawn at your turndown service. Or maybe a kayak for a quick adventure? You can ask for it. The more specific your request, the better. You might be able to borrow workout gear (you don’t need to bring your own). You might be able to borrow golf clubs or a bicycle. Check. You lost yours 5 minutes after you checked in. Want to get a new sewing kit? It’s yours. Ask. They won’t judge. Probably.

9. Book directly and keep checking for better rates (because who doesn’t love a deal?)

You want to get the most bang for your money? Booking directly with the hotel is the best way to get a good deal. Even after booking, you should still check the rate. Why? If the price drops you can usually rebook the room at the new lower rate. If the hotel offers you some additional perks when booking directly, it is worth asking.

10. It’s not hard, I promise.

Be kind. A little kindness will go a long way. The staff is there to make sure you have a wonderful stay. Ask them how they are doing and share some stories. You’ll be appreciated, and who know? You might get some unexpected benefits. Don’t forget that luxury is not only about pillows. It’s about the people making your stay unforgettable.
